Nothing hits the spot quite like getting out of the house and treating yourself to a yummy brekky or lunch, good coffee (or in our case tea) and a friendly face after a long hard week! For Oh! Hello Geelong, our visit to Gobble was what we needed to help us unwind and get into the swing of the weekend.

Behind the scenes…

Gobble is owned and operated by Michelle…who is a woman with a lot on her plate (sorry, couldn’t resist)!  Michelle’s entry into the world of food started in her own kitchen where she spent hours baking afternoon tea delights for her friends and family. After years of feeding her fans at home, she decided to spread her wings and registered her kitchen and started baking slices and biscuits for the local farmers’ market on Little Malop Street.

As the demands from the market grew so did Michelle’s itch, she decided she needed a café of her own. Michelle happened to have lunch at Gobble one sunny day and fell instantly for the café. With a slice of luck and twist of fate it just so happened that Gobble was advertised in the addy the very next day and from that moment there was no turning back! It was absolutely meant to be! What a story!

Five years on Michelle, with four little munchkins in tow (and a big munchkin too), has managed to develop a simple café that is known for genuinely lovely and friendly service, amazing home made gelato, its sweet treats and a scrumptious menu . Did we mention the gelato?

Feel good food

Michelle’s concept for the café was to create a place to eat that is simple, community focused, where customers feel special and where the food is fresh and sourced from as close to home as possible. Michelle and her team of two chefs freshly bake their own muffins, scones, cakes, slices and even make their own gelato on the premises. And if that’s not enough, Gobble’s lunch specials change daily and they offer gluten free specials. Oh and one more thing, they also do catering for all occasions!

The Road Test

For this adventure, Oh! Hello Geelong really put Gobble to the test; with Penny & Laura as well as Rory, Steve and Baby Alexander arriving on Gobble’s doorstep on a muggy Saturday morning. Thankfully Michelle  reserved a table and a high chair for our party so we could get straight onto the serious job of eating! Our brekky choices ranged from baked beans on toast, avocado toast (super delicious and pretty), the pancakes, scrambled egg roti and the cheese and vegemite sandwich for Baby! From the taste, to the timing, to the portion size, to the presentation, everything was done to perfection; quite a feat given the size of our group and the large number of customers in the café. Oh, and you’ll be glad to know that on the drinks front, Gobble aced it…real tea in a tea pot. Sweet!

The verdict!

Gobble is the perfect place for lazy breakfast and long lunches with friends; it is also great for picking up something quick to eat straightaway or maybe later (the quiches, sausage rolls and pies looked delish!). And of course, when you want to treat yourself, it’s pretty hard to resist the gelato and Gobble’s baked goodness; we’ve tried and failed many times! But food aside, Gobble is great because Michelle and her girls want to make you feel good, whether you’re there for 30 seconds or three hours. And we can honestly say the girls do just that! Thanks Michelle and the Gobble Girls!

Titbit…

In case you were wondering who the three boys are in the funny Gobble logo, they are three of Michelle’s brood!
