Artist Profile – Jedda Robaard

On this fine, sunny afternoon, we would like to share with you, the talents of local illustrator, Jedda Robaard!

We first met Jedda, many years ago as a fellow stallholder at some of the local Geelong makers markets; chances are, you’ve met her too and already know her work!  For those of you that haven’t seen it before, here’s a little teaser!   We have been fans for quite a while now and are so happy to see how much she has accomplished since we first met!

Jedda grew up in a small coastal town in Tasmania, but now lives on the Bellarine Peninsula. She shares her home with 3 children and many furry and feathered friends, who never fail to inspire her! She first studied graphic design and illustration in the early 90’s, at the Launceston school of art. There were no computers; just lots of drawing, printmaking, typography!

Jedda has already published 10 (eek!) books with The Five Miles Press, Black Dog Books (Walker Books) and Harper Collins; the list is quite extensive!  There are also 5 new titles in the pipeworks for 2014; she is one busy lady!  Jedda was also one half of a successful Art studio for children Ekko creatives for over 6 years, which Nat’s kids happily attended!

Tomorrow, Saturday 2nd November, Jedda is launching her latest book, Stanley the sock monster!  At the launch there are free Stanley activities for the kids and she has two signed copies of Stanley to give away!

Oh! Hello Little Ones! Featuring Bambolotta & some more giveaways!

Who: Bambolotta

Where: Shop C/41 Hitchcock Ave, Barwon Heads VIC 3227

When: Daily 10 to 5

Ph: (03) 5254 1444

It’s pretty hard for most people not to go gaga when it comes to toys and clothes for little ones – Oh! Hello Geelong knows all about it, we have been gushing, drooling and squealing in delight over booties, bibs and blankies for the last month! So you can just imagine our delight when we discovered an entire shop devoted to all things little ones! The oh so adorable Bambolotta store in Barwon Heads is an absolute delight and is the place to go if you’re looking for beautiful and quality products for little ones. With some of our fave kids and baby brands including Minti, April Showers, Petit Collage, TuTu Du Monde, Tip Toey Joey shoes, Milk baby, Cotton & Thread, Wilson & Frenchy clothing, Native Shoes and Ergo cocoon – Oh! Hello Geelong will be heading back time and time again (we’ll try and keep the gushing and drooling to a minimum if we can!).  Thanks to Bambolotta’s lovely owner Melanie Greco for answering a few little questions for Oh! Hello Little Ones!

How long have you had the store?

We’ve had the store since January 2011 – so just over 18 months now.

How did you come up with your shop name?

Bambolotta means ‘little doll’ in Italian and is how people refer to gorgeous and delightful children or babies…it goes hand in hand with cheek pinching (so cute!).

Please tell us about your beautiful store Bambolotta?

Our store is a collection of clothing  for new borns  and kids up to 14 years, we also stock footwear, homewares/décor and toys.  We carry products for children that will also appeal to a parents’ aesthetics ie parents will be happy to look at these items on a daily basis! Our range is a mix of on trend and classic items, fair trade, organic, practical, beautiful and fun!

When we started our store, we had been looking for the right business for a few years and when we stumbled across the previous store in this location, we knew it was perfect for us to make into our own!

Can you tell us a little about your baby/kids/mum range?

Our store has a diverse range of products, which continues to grow and expand.   We are conscious of choosing high quality products that parents are able to have for a long time and potentially pass onto someone else. We have a large range of European brands, as well as local brands where possible. Our babies and children’s ranges are safe and age appropriate.  We have a small selection of products for mums and we carry a selection of homewares that we’re sure Mums will purchase for the home as much as for the nursery or bedroom!

Name your top three baby/kids products for 2012

This is a hard one….

  • Wishbone flip or wishbone bike
  • Our Indian headdresses
  • Mimi Lou wall art

What is THE perfect gift for a baby girl/baby boy

An affordable perfect gift is an ergo cocoon paired with a hubert comforter, blabla or Jenni Harley doll…a combination of practical and whimsy!

If you are looking for a gift that really makes a statement, a ride on plane (boy) or a timber rocking horse (girl) is AMAZING!

What makes a nursery look really special?

A nursery will look special if you are true to your own style and create something that is authentic.  It doesn’t matter what your theme or colour scheme is, keep it simple but mix new and vintage items, contrast your colours and textures to create a warm space…and buy the best quality linen you can afford!

What are your secrets for making pregnancy that little bit more lovely?

Leave the house without your handbag – it will be a long time until you don’t have to carry a bag of goodies again!

Thanks Melanie! xx
